Hancock County Bicycling

The Hancock Handlebars Bicycle Club has been in existence for over 50 years, starting out as a loosely knit group of Bicycling friends and eventually becoming affiliated with the American youth Hostelling Organization in Lima, finally becoming the Hancock Handlebars organization we now know. The club has experienced wonderful growth in our membership over the last three years. We think part of it is because of the Lance Armstrong phenomenon and partly because the general public becoming much more health conscious. We have grown from under 50 members a few years ago to 300 members at this point for this year. We have added many new planned rides with the increased membership. We have rides every day of the week, some days as many as five different organized rides. Our most popular rides are our family rides on Monday and Wednesday evening (we always try to include at an ice cream stop) and our fitness rides on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (no ice cream stop here), the fitness rides are a very aggressive 19 to 25 mph average and travel 25 to 40 miles.
